Roy Johnson, executive director of Lads to Leaders/Leaderettes, has been preaching for 31 years and speaks at over 100 churches and lectureships across the brotherhood each year. He joined the Lads to Leaders/Leaderettes staff as executive director in January 2003, and began preaching and serving as an elder at his home congregation, Hollins Church of Christ in Hollins, Ala., that same year.

Prior to returning to Alabama to join the staff of Lads to Leaders, Roy was the Scout Executive in Butler, Pa. near Pittsburgh for three years, and was a top-level executive for the Boy Scouts of America for 23 years. He also spent 18 years preaching for the Campbell Springs Church of Christ in Ashland, Ala. and three years serving as an elder for the Grant Church of Christ in Grant, Ala.

Roy comes from a long line of church leaders. His great grandfather was one of the founding members of the Hollins Church of Christ in the early 1900s. Roy’s grandfather was an elder and had the distinction of having every child, grandchild and great-grandchild become a member of the church. Roy’s father served as an elder, his brother is an elder, and his sister is married to a preacher.

Roy has been married to the former Brenda Hurt for 30 years and they have three sons: Bryan, Ben and Brad. All three sons are products of the Lads to Leaders/Leaderettes program. Bryan is a song leader and youth minister for his home congregation. Ben serves as both the associate minister and Lads group leader at his home congregation. Brad is an honor student involved with church activities, Lads Winners’ Circle speech, Scholar’s Bowl, and the Duke Talent program.
