Non-Competitive
Events:
ORAL BIBLE READING
Purpose:
To emphasize the fundamental importance of Bible reading and to strengthen
the foundation for public speaking. Bible reading is an important skill
for young people to develop—the younger the better. Beyond the
fundamental importance of reading the Bible, the skill of oral Bible
reading is also a foundation for other public speaking.
Participation:
Students in K-6th grade may
participate.
Awards:
Students in 3rd-6th grade will be
rated using the scale AAA, AA, or A. K-2nd grade students are
given a certificate of participation.
ADVANCED BIBLE READING
Purpose:
To further develop oral Bible reading skills and increase opportunities to
serve.
Participation:
Students in grades seven through college may
participate. There are five levels of participation—Student Reader,
Servant Reader, Skilled Reader, Master Reader and Accomplished Reader.
Each level builds on the skills honed in the past, and becomes more
challenging.
Awards:
Students who complete each level are recognized with an
award at convention.
CENTURION OF SCRIPTURE
Purpose:
To encourage memorization of God’s word. In Acts 10, a centurion
commanded 100 soldiers. The Centurion of Scripture commands 100
Scriptures to memory.
Participation:
Open to all students and adults, whether
attending convention or not. Participants recite verses to team leaders
or other volunteers from their home congregation.
Awards:
Participants are recognized with an award at convention,
based on the number of verses recited per sitting.
GOOD SAMARITAN
Purpose:
To reach out to others by going the extra mile. To teach the importance
of showing people other than family the love of Jesus.
Participation:
Open to all students and adults, attending
convention or not. Examples of service include: sending cards, visiting
the sick and shut-in, conducting home Bible studies, performing service
projects, etc.
Awards:
Participants are recognized with a medal at convention
based on the number of points accumulated.
JONATHAN BOURLAND AWARD
Purpose:
An extension of the Good Samaritan program. To reach out to others by
going the extra mile. To teach the importance of showing people other
than family the love of Jesus. Individuals are nominated for the award
because of their selfless work serving others.
Participation:
Open to all students and adults, attending
convention or not. Examples of service include: sending cards, visiting
the sick and shut-in, conducting home Bible studies, performing service
projects, etc.
Awards:
Trophies are given to the first, second, and third place
winners in each age division.
BARTIMAEUS
 
Purpose:
To recognize and give a forum to Lads & Leaderettes with special needs.
Participation:
Open to all students and adults with special
needs. Participants may enter Bartimaeus speech, song leading, songs of
praise, and/or Bible reading and also may display art.
Awards:
Each student and adult that participates will receive a
medal at convention.
PARADE OF LEADERS
Purpose:
To recognize those young people selected for their leadership qualities to
represent their respective groups. The parade is the kickoff for the
Friday evening awards ceremony at convention.
Participation:
Two students will be chosen to participate in
this parade of leaders. Students may be chosen by their local
congregations, team leaders or peers.
PARADE OF WINNERS
Purpose:
To encourage students and adults to read the Scriptures.
Participation:
Open to all students and adults. Participants
do not have to attend convention.
Awards:
Participants are recognized with a medal at convention
based on the number of times they read the Old or New Testament in a
12-month period.
ADVANCED PUPPETEERING
Purpose:
An established team of puppeteers prepares and presents at least 10
presentations during the year as a teaching tool to reach out to the
community. Examples: Vacation Bible School, children’s training classes,
inner city ministries, hospitals, mission trips, nursing homes, schools,
etc.
Participation:
Boys and girls in grades 3-12 participate
together in teams of up to twelve students.
Awards:
A Bronze, Silver, and Gold award will be given depending on
the number of presentations made.
ADVANCED SPEECH
Purpose:
To prepare students to be accomplished speakers and Bible class teachers
by delivering speeches to worship assemblies, Bible classes, devotional
groups, or other appropriate audiences.
Participation:
Students in grades seven through college prepare
12 brief speeches (a minimum of three minutes each) and deliver them each
two, three, or four times to different audiences. Convention attendance
is not necessary.
Awards:
Students are recognized with a bronze award for giving
their speeches a total of 24 times, a silver award for a total of 36
times, or a gold award for a total of 48 times.
ADVANCED
SONG LEADING/SONGS OF PRAISE
Purpose:
To prepare young men to be accomplished song leaders by requiring them to
lead songs to worship assemblies, Bible classes, devotional groups, or
other appropriate audiences, such as civic clubs or schools. To prepare
young women to be accomplished song leaders by requiring them to lead
songs to Ladies’ Bible classes, Ladies devotional groups, Ladies’ Day
audiences and other appropriate audiences.
Participation:
Open to students from grades 7-college.
Participants do not have to attend convention to participate.
Awards:
A Bronze, Silver, and Gold award will be given at
convention according to the participants meeting the individual
requirements as set forth in the rules book.
SECOND LANGUAGE
Purpose:
To promote and increase the ability of men and women to be able to
communicate basic information and also to teach the gospel of Jesus Christ
in a foreign language and/or sign language.
Participation:
Open to participants from kindergarten through
adults. Participants do not have to attend convention. Demonstration of
these skills will be done on a local level.
Awards:
Bronze, Silver and Gold awards will be given at convention according to
the participants meeting the individual requirements as set forth in the
rules book.
GIFTS
Girls In Fellowship & Team Study
Purpose:
To foster a spirit of cooperation and fellowship between Christian teen
girls. To help them develop a spiritual relationship with other team
members in order to overcome temptation and serve God faithfully. To help
them grow in ability to lead and participate in Ladies Bible studies and
to complete practical projects that will benefit the local congregation
and community.
Participation:
Open to girls from grades 6-12, with groups
consisting of no less than three and no more than ten girls. Participants
do not have to attend convention to participate. Participation in this
study is on a local level.
Awards:
GIFTS I, II, and III awards are given at convention
according to the participants meeting the individual requirements as set
forth in the rules book.

GUARD
Guys Understanding Authority and Real Discipleship

Purpose:
To foster a spirit of cooperation and fellowship between Christian teen
boys. To help them develop a spiritual relationship with other team
members in order to overcome temptation and serve God faithfully. To help
them grow in ability to lead and participate in Bible studies, devotionals
and worship services and to complete practical projects that will benefit
the local congregation and community.
Participation:
Open to boys from
grades 6-12, with groups consisting of no less than three and no more than
ten boys. Participants do not have to attend convention to participate.
Participation in this study is on a local level.
Awards:
GUARD I, II, and III
awards are given at convention according to the participants meeting the
individual requirements as set forth in the rules book.

KNOW THE BOOKS
Purpose:
To encourage everyone of all ages to learn the books of the Bible.
Participation:
Children through grade 2 may sing or recite the books of the Old Testament, New Testament or both. Students in grades 3 through 6 may recite the books of the Old Testament, New Testament or both. Students in grade 7 through adults may recite the books of the Old Testament, New Testament or both, plus the theme for each book. A list of suggested themes is included in the rules book.
Awards:
Awards will be presented to students through grade 6 during the scheduled Oral Bible Reading session for their grade at convention. Awards for participants in grade 7 through adults will be provided to the team leaders with the registration packets at convention. Bronze level award for reciting the New Testament. Silver level award for reciting the Old Testament. Gold level award for reciting both the Old and New Testaments.
Competitive Events:
ART SAYS IT
Purpose:
To offer students an opportunity to use their talents, skills, and the
tools of drawing, painting, and other art media to communicate a biblical
message.
Participation:
Open to all students grades K-College. Students
in K-2nd grade and Bartimaeus participants may submit artwork
for display only. Participants do not have to attend convention. There
are seven categories: Painting, Drawing/Sketching, Collage, Sculpture,
Black and White Photography and Color Photography and Posters. The
artwork should reflect the annual convention theme.
Awards:
Awards are given to first, second, and third place winners
in each grade division of each category.
BANNER

Purpose:
To encourage team organization and creativity among students in the
creation of banners to be displayed at group functions, youth rallies,
churches, or in the community.
Participation:
Open to all students, kindergarten through
college. All team members do not have to attend convention. There are
two categories of participation: Fabric and Eclectic.
Awards:
Awards are given to first, second, and third place teams in
each category.
BIBLE BOWL
Purpose:
To enable students to enhance knowledge of textual content; to develop
quick reference to Bible facts and gain knowledge of Scripture; to bond
through team spirit.
Participation:
Boys and girls in grades K-12th grade
participate together in teams of four students. Students may also take
the test individually to try for a High Score award and do not have to be
on a team. The Bible bowl book is announced each year.
Awards:
Trophies are given to finalist teams and the first, second,
and third place teams in each grade division. Individual High Score
awards are also presented to the top 10 highest scores in each grade
division.

DEBATE
Purpose:
To promote a deeper study of the Scripture as it relates to life’s issues.
Participation:
Boys and girls in grades 9-college participate
separately on teams of two. The debate topic is announced each year.
Awards:
Trophies are given to the first, second, and third place
winners in each division.
MUSIC COMPOSITION
Purpose:
To encourage those talented in music composition to develop and use their
talents for God.
Participation:
Open to students in grades 3-college. Original
pieces are judged in the categories of lyrics, melody, and harmony.
Awards:
Awards are given to first, second, and third place winners
in each grade division of each category.
PEARLS
Purpose:
To provide students with a deeper study into the Bible bowl book selected
for the convention year by studying a thirteen week lesson study either in
a classroom setting or on an individual basis.
Participation:
Open to students grades three through twelve. Participants
do not have to attend convention. Students will either study the material
in a classroom setting or on an individual basis and will take the written
test individually.
Awards:
Awards are given to the top ten test scorers in each grade division at
convention.

PUPPET THEATER

Purpose:
To train students to teach the Bible in a creative way using puppets and
for the participants to learn valuable team-building skills in their
preparation and presentation.
Participation:
Boys and girls in
grades
K-12 participate together in teams of up to twelve students. Puppet shows
relate to the annual convention theme and last no longer than twelve
minutes.
Awards: Awards are given to first, second, and
third place winners in each grade division.


SCRAPBOOK

Purpose: To serve as a record of activities and
growth of students and groups.
Participation:
Individual participation open to students in
grades 3-college. Group participation is open to teams of
students from kindergarten through college.
Awards:
Awards are given to first, second, and third place teams
and individuals in each grade division.
SONG LEADING
Purpose:
To train young men to lead singing in appropriate situations such as:
Worship, Bible Class, Devotionals, etc.
Participation:
Boys in grades 3-College participate separately.
Students in kindergarten through second grade may lead but will not be
judged. Songs are selected by the participant.
Awards:
Trophies are given to finalists, first, second and third
place winners in each grade division.
SONGS OF PRAISE
Purpose:
To train young ladies to lead singing in appropriate situations such as:
Ladies Bible class, Ladies Retreats, Ladies Day Events, etc.
Participation:
Girls in grades 3-college participate separately.
Students in kindergarten through second grade may lead but will not be
judged. Songs are selected by the participant. No males are allowed in
the room while the girls are leading singing at convention.
Awards:
Awards are given to first, second, and third place winners
in each grade division.
SPEECH
Purpose:
To provide a challenge to students to excel in public speaking and
encourage high standards in speech content, organization, and delivery.
Participation:
Boys and girls in grades 3-college participate
separately. K-2nd grade may speak, but will not be judged.
Speeches relate to the annual convention theme and range in length from
three to six minutes. Specific requirements differ by age. Men are not
allowed in the rooms when the girls are speaking at convention.
Awards:
Trophies are given to finalists, first, second, and third
place winners in each grade.
MASS MEDIA
Purpose:
To train Christians to use the media effectively.
Participation:
Students in grades 3-college participate either
individually or as a team. Categories are: Article/Editorial, Storyline,
Web Page, Audio Presentation, and Video Presentation. Participants do not
have to attend convention. Lads and Leaderettes are evaluated separately
for Article/Editorial, Audio Presentation, and Video Presentation.
Awards:
Awards are given to first, second, and third place winners
in each grade division of each category. |
